TYPE DATABASE - Transit - Ranger - All Terrain The illustrations show the main types of crane, CLICK on any IMAGE of these to go to a page dealing with that type of unit. This will have photographs and any details available. All terrain units were introduced by an increased demand for road travelling rough terrain machines capable of driving them selves to site operations. The Transit, the first of which was made in 1974, was a rugged version of the standard truck crane. The 515 Transit was a redesign of the original Husky 15T The All Terrain (AT) and Ranger units made from 1978 were Huskys adapted for distance road travel. Placing a driving cab on the chassis as well as a slewing cab, the 530 however took a different path having a swing cab allowing the driver sufficient vision for road travel. The TT865 marked the point when the difference between road and route terrain merged. Although badged as a Grove this machine was the last crane to be fully designed and built at the Sunderland works. . |
