Where you might wonder did this strange contraption come from. The answer is that at this distance in time I have no idea.
I remember having an interest in traction engines and having made small scratch built vintage cars from paper and card. I think it probably grew rather than come from some grand design.
I would often draw cars and lorries on any peace of paper I had to hand and I suspect this started out as a very small profile sketch.
Discoveries with my small models must have made me want to tackle something more ambitious.
I had discovered how to dope paper and card with glue to make it hard and able to accept paint. A similar method was used on light cloth, I had done this on small odd airplanes made from wire (see image)
To stop polished brass tarnishing a coat of clear nail varnish was applied, this was also used on thick copper wire as pipes.
This is the kind of model you keep in the attic not wanting to throw it away.
However bring the case down recently for a clean it fell several feet to the floor breaking the case and smashing the model (see photo)
