PRIESTMAN EXCAVATORS
Prestman 350

This range of three models was the result of the design department design update of the Prestman digger . I did not stop long enough to see the resulting machines, but it seems that the makeover was carried out as the illustrations below show.

Finished model built 1:12 scale
25"x10"x20" high. (635x250x500mm)

I never got to make a historical digger, diggers were not really part of Coles history, although it would have bee interesting.

Coles in the early days did supply a kind of excavator based on the steam crane which had a chain operated grab that could be used for digging out light earth or lifting coal or ballast from barges or ships.

The models were obviously built as can be seen in the pictures above where one was recently spotted sneaking around a site outside Liverpool.
Modern excavators are not something you see many photographs off but at least there seems to have been a wall poster made for teenagers to put up on there bedroom walls.

You mean other teenagers don't do this.....

To make the pictures look as real as we could we took the models outside into the car park and by sitting them on the grass and getting very low with the camera the looked quite realistic.

This of course was long before the days of digital giggery pokery with photographic images was even thought of.
The guy laying in the car park with the camera photographing one of the models was the chief designer.

Who's name I will remember one day soon...
