COLOSSUS 6000 MODEL

This is very much a pleasant surprise when it landed in my in box, a model of the Colossus 600 made in the workshop where I worked in Sunderland.

It would have been made just after I left and seeing it I do seem to recall the design team talking about a big twelve or sixteen wheeled machine on the drawing board..

Model size 52"x12"x13" high. 1:20 scale

This model, now for sale, was bought by Jimmy's Farm Toys (Pennsylvania USA). It is a sales model produced by the workshop go with the sales team who obviously could not carry around the real things in they briefcase. It would have been made between 1972 and 1978 when the workshop closed down.

I often wondered what happened to old industrial models and I think Jimmy's story of how this one turned up is probably typical.

" an employee at Grove** in Greencastle ,pa (Pennsylvania USA). was asked to go upstairs to a storage room, clean the place out and throw away the model cranes, there were three of them, and keep the packing and the boxes*** for other things. He took the 6000 home and has now decided to get rid of it "

(**who had taken over Coles 1985)

(***The boxes were large and solid due to the fragile nature of the models, even so the models always came back broken in some way.)

If anyone wants to buy this model I'll pass your enquiry to the Jimmy.
