The Land Where The Doobries Sing

"I could just eat a cream cake." said Terry.

"The Wise Old Doobrie said nothing about cream cakes." said Feneela.

"But I'm hungry." said Terry.

"So were Hansel and Gretel." said Feneela. "Look what happened to them when they went to the ginger bread house."

"It does seem a bit suspicious." said Terry." The Wise Old Doobrie did say something about lost ones trying to stop us."

They carried on walking along the path and as they did so they came upon even more signs. The signs pointed to every nice thing you could imagine, the chocolate factory. play world, free pizzas. It became very clear someone was trying to get them to leave the footpath.

"The lost ones." whispered Feneela quietly in case any one else was listening.

The signs got more desperate, Fee Food, All the Toys in the World, Carpet Sale all Half Price.

Terry and Feneela kept walking, trying not to take any notice of the signs. There were so many, it was hard not to read any of them. They were getting tired and just about to give up and go for the free pizza, when they saw just ahead of them, the sign they had been looking for, the first sign of hope.

Compared with all the other signs it was quite small, with just the one word on it, 'HOPE'. Terry and Feneela turned to the right down the path that was just in front of the sign. 'Turn right at the first sign of hope', just as the Wise Old Doobrie had instructed. On the small path they now followed there were no more signs.

The green meadow slowly gave way to a gray emptiness, the sky became gray, the ground became gray, the distance became a gray mist. Feneela held Terry's hand and they drew closer together as it grew darker and darker. They seemed to be waking in emptiness.

Terry thought he caught sight of a shadow in the corner of his eye, but when he turned to look, there was nothing. They heard whispers, 'You'll never get back' they said. It was all very frightening.
