Military Cranes

Coles started making cranes for the military in 1937 when the Air Ministry ordered 82 EMA type unit. This unit proved so reliable and easy to maintain they continued making them in large numbers attached to various train, lorries and independent carriages for the next ten years.

All the subsequent Military cranes were variations based on cranes developed for the civilian market. The difference was that the military units were made to a far higher specification designed to work in all types of environment. They were more extras, fitted winches hooks and tow bars. The Hydra 70 could be driven from both the crane cab on top as well as the main driving cab, the crane could also be operated from both cabs. Small fittings like links and hoses would be stronger, wiring encased and things like self locking nuts used.
