" What are you going to do with that." said the man in a not very friendly tone of voice. " Pull it down." said Bodget " Before it falls down." " You'll have to put it back again." said the man. " I beg your pardon." said Bodget. " The chimney." said the man." You will have to put it back to look exactly the same as it was, only without the lean of course. I'm from the local planning office of the Council." explained the man. " You're not Mr Stopit. " ask Bodget. " No he only does new buildings. My name's Just Holdon." said the man. " I deal with listed buildings." " What are listed buildings." said Mrs Letterworth. " Very old buildings like this one." said Mr Holdon " I try to make sure that people do not spoil them. By pulling chimneys off and things like that." He gave Bodget a hard look. " I am afraid that the chimney has got to come down." said Constable Nowthen. " Before it falls off and hurts some body." " I agree." said Mr Holdon. " But it must be put back the way it was, if possible using the old bricks." |
